Dr. Strange: In the Multiverse of WTF!

This isn’t a review but just some things I found interesting about the movie. I’ll will be posting subsequent blog post going into more detail on certain things I write about here.

So long story short, Dr. Strange: In The Multiverse of Madness is good…not great. It does have rewatch value, so I’ll defininty being watching again in the future. This movie falls in the mid-tier of MCU movies. Not in my Top 10, but definitely in my top 15. Go see it, especially if you’ve watched What If and WanadaVision – it’s pays off big.

I’m looking forward to seeing more of her in the future.

Watch WandaVision

WandaVision does tie directly into Dr. Strange 2, so watching it is essential if you need more backstory and to also get the full understanding of Wanda’s mental state. Unfortunately, there is no Vision. He’s mentioned once by Wanda and DAS IT! If you were expecting to see Vision, then you’ll be disappointed.

The Purpose of What If…?

The What If…? series does tie into Dr. Strange 2, however, indirectly. It appears that What If…?’s purpose was as an introduction to the Multiverse, the Darkhold, and what causes a reality to break. Those same ideas and concepts show up in Dr. Stange 2.

None of the characters from the What If…? series show, however, variations of those character do. For instance, The Captain Carter from the What If…? series is not the same Captain Carter in the movie – she’s from a different universe. The same goes for the corrupted Dr. Strange. He’s not the same one from What If…?, being as though that one is trapped.

The Illuminati

A huge surprise and a major spoiler if you haven’t see the movie yet, is the introduction of the Illuminati. For those who don’t know, the Illuminati, in the comics, is comprised of a group of heroes who work behind the scenes manipulating events or just straight up killing folks before they can cause any harm. In other words, they eliminate threats before they become a threat. They push their morale compasses aside and make decisions that most others couldn’t and do things that most other wouldn’t. They would have killed baby Thanos is doing so would save the universe.

In the movie, the Illuminati members are Captain Carter (Not the What If…? variant), Reed Richards, Supreme Mordo, Professor X, Black Bolt, and Maria Rambeau. This scene is the biggest spoiler of the whole movie and has major implications for the MCU moving forward.

Reed Richards is played by John Krasinski. Yes, John muthafuckin’ Krasinski!!! In my opinion, a perfect casting. He did a great job as Reed and hopefully he gets to play him in the Fantastic Four movie.

Black Bolt is played by the original actor from the TV show and was able to redeem himself. We get to see Black Bolt as he is in the comic and that is awesome!

An even bigger surprise, teased in the trailers, is the appearance of Professor X played by Patrick Stewart. Yes, that means that, at the very least, mutants exist in this Illuminati universe. Which means that mutants exist in the multiverse. Can’t wait to see how Marvel Studios handles this. They are planning on making any annoucements about mutants in the MCU until 2023.

The Multiverse and Incursions

So now that we have a much clearer understanding of the Multiverse and how it works, what implications do past events have in reshaping and damaging the multiverse? This is a discusion I’d like to have. I’m not going too deep into it, but I do have a question that will open up many doors of discussion and debate:

  1. Is it possible that Strange could have potentially caused 7,000,302 incursions OR divergent timelines when he visited 14,000,605 timelines in the search to find a way to stop Thanos? We know the decision he did make lead to the “Blip’ and the Blip had a ripple effect across the Universe and we saw the direct result on Earth in the Eternals movie. What other issues were caused as a result of Strange’s decision?
  2. Is Wanda still alive?

I have more questions and like I said, I’ll be posting more posts related to the movie throughout the next week or so.
