Last night I had the pleasure of working with members from the Baltimore Robotics Center and Project Waves to begin refurbishing donated computers and distributing them to students in the Baltimore area.
THE STUDENTS IN BALTIMORE NEED OUR HELP!
From the Baltimore robotics Center :
“Baltimore Robotics Center is teaming with area organizations to provide laptops, tablets and high-speed internet access to local students affected by the coronavirus pandemic. Here are the details:
Baltimore, MD – March 24, 2020, A group of technology experts is pooling resources to establish high-speed internet access for local residents and provide them free laptops/tablets so students can continue their studies at home while schools are closed. The goal is to use the Baltimore Robotics Center, located at 1001 W. Pratt Street, Baltimore MD, 21223 as a community anchor, to build a FREE WIFI Mesh Network.
COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus), is exposing infrastructure gaps within underserved and resource-deprived communities across the United States. These gaps are often linked to income, public health, and digital inequalities. Inequalities, ultimately leaving local residents in Baltimore without equitable access to real-time information and virtual connectivity during the pandemic.
An actionable working collective formed by Adam Bouhmad, Founder Project Waves & Assistant Director of Technology at Digital Harbor Foundation, Andrew Coy, Executive Director at Digital Harbor Foundation, Jonathan Moore, Founder & CEO of RowdyOrb.it, Ed Mullin, Executive Director Baltimore’s Robotics Center & CIO/VP Think Systems, Inc., and McKeever “Mac” Conwell, Portfolio Manager / Deal Team Coordinator for Maryland Technology Development Corporation (TEDCO), to immediately get people connected to the internet in South Baltimore.
Their combined efforts will reduce educational disparities, bridge the growing digital divide, and subdue growing anxieties as COVID-19 impacts South Baltimore with access to real-time information.”
