I’m not knocking the movie, but I can’t give it a 10, 9 or even an 8 score out of 10. The bar had already been set in previous movies and done better. Giving this movie anything higher than 7 would be an insult to what came before. So yall just gonna turn your backs on Creasy though?

Folks have been raving about Netflix’s latest release Extraction. It’s a solid film with great action and decent acting. However, I’m confused has to the very high praise folks are giving the movie. I’m seeing folks give it “9 out of 10”, “10 out of 10”, “5-stars”. Self-quarantine got yall buggin’. I really can’t see how yall could have rated this movie so high. A fucking “9”? HOW!?
Was it the story perhaps? Ummm…NO! During my whole watch of Extraction, my mind kept going back to Man On Fire. Let’s be 100, the main plots are similar as are the plots of a lot of movies. But if you are giving this movie a high score because of the plot than we obviously weren’t watching the same movie. The plot was a dumbed-down compared to Man on Fire. I needed a little more exploration of the characters for me to even give the movie an “8”. The movie gave us just enough plot and character stories to push the plot along because this movie’s saving grace was the action and cinematography. The things Extraction lacked that Man On Fire excels in is better characterization, story, and dialogue. I feel that a lack of all those things and a focus on the action is what makes this movie good just not great.
Again, Extraction‘s saving grace is the cinematography. Primarily the long-take scene that most people are raving about. It was awesome but again, I’ve seen it before – Children of Men, 1917, Birdman, The Raid, Old Boy, Goodfellas, and The Protector. There are other movies that have done long takes. These are movies that I’ve actually seen and can remember at the moment of typing this. Also, they did it better.
Like I said, a good movie but not as great as its predecessors.
